It was a gift from my new friend, Ian Gallie. He is an art lover AND he has green fingers! His garden in Paarl was a treat! Full of roses, Japanese maples and jasmine. He moved to Panorama and is busy planning the new garden! Last week we bought Japanese honeysuckle! I can’t wait to see the end result!

He’s art collection is a constant inspiration! Ian tickled my creative juices towards printmaking! It is an overwhelming new venture.  I attended a softground etching workshop last August at the Ruth Prowse School of Art.

Here is my first attempt of softground.  Eunice Geustyn is the very patient teacher and a brilliant artist herself!

Lana’s Birthday!

Lana, my youngest daughter, turned 5 yesterday! We had a Tangled party! What a pleasure to watch all the little friends celebrate her birthday!

My friend, Neritha, made the Rapunzel cake!! She is an artist with fondant and I am blessed to have her in my life…not only to bake cakes!

My gift to Lana, was a painting from the movie! In Rapunzel’s tower, she painted this scene to show her “mom” how much she wants to see the floating of the lights. Every year on her birthday, the lights appear. On her 18th birthday, she goes on an adventure to see the lights…it is a must see movie, for young and old!

The original artist is Claire Keane! She is amazing! Her illustrations inspired her dad to make the movie!!! This is a copy of her work, I will not sell it, it will only hang in my Lana’s room! Go check out Claire’s work at http://claireonacloud.com/.

A painting I took to Gallery Fabriano.  The gallery is owned by artist Ilze Kleyn.  She paints the most amazing figures and spiritual pieces!  Her gallery is a constant inspiration and she gives me the opportunity to sell my work to the public.

I normally sell my paintings word of mouth.  The gallery promotes on a whole different level!  I am very fortunate to have her in my life.  Go and have a look, they are situated in the Cape Garden Centre in Joostenbergvlakte.  30 minutes drive from Cape Town.

Nina’s Birthday Bunting!

I can’t believe my first born is six years old!!  For her party she decided to have a baby ginger cat theme!!  Very original and a challenge for her mom!

Luckily I have a friend, Neritha, who makes the best fondant cakes.  She has a gift for making your cake dreams come true!  If you live in the Cape Town area and you need a cake for any occasion, call Neritha 0825104578.

I finished Nina’s purple bunting as decoration for the room.  It took me under two hours to sew.  I sewed it on to bright purple ribbon!  It is a crafty and affordable way to cheer up any space!!  I think it looks pretty!!

Bunting!

I was inspired by my friend Liesl, who made her two girls bunting for their rooms!  My two likes pink and purple! Obviously…. we had so much fun sourcing the fabric!

I decided to cut the triangles with a zig zag scissor. pinking shear.  Is that the right name for it???   ( Thank you Natasja! Have a look at Natasja’s blog! She is like my oldest friend and idol when it comes to blogging!!! http://crochetime@wordpress.com ) I hope you know what I mean!! That took the most time.  The sewing went fast!  Easy and effective way to transform a room.  We used Nina’s purple bunting as decoration for her birthday!!

I made myself a template from card board.  Remember to draw the lines on the back of the fabric!!!

Paint Project

In August I attended a great workshop on paint techniques!   Lisa Spaarwater owns a company that specializes in transforming old furniture into a new life!

She has a very special shop in Durbanville, next to a florist!  Go and have a look!  You can also follow her on facebook. www.lemonlilac.co.za

My very first project was a kitchen cupboard for the newly renovated kitchen.  It will be my coffee station!

My husband, Danie helped with the sanding of the piece.  It is made from sleeper wood, very heavy.  I painted it with 2 coats of water based acrylic paint. Then I distressed it with sanding paper and I highlighted some areas with a darker blue glaze.

2 sugars and milk please…
